I am trying to keep a bit of a journal of the happenings in our life. Our life is not just the pretty pictures and fun things I post, but it is also the dirty dishes that overflow the sink, never ending laundry, baked cookie fails, sibling squabbles, sickness, work trips, school stuff, and all the nitty gritty. I just want to respect the people that I am sharing life with. Just remember that...Life is more than what I post on Facebook or my Blog.
We played a exhibition game against Aylmer today. Here's Carsten playing goal for the first half. As nervous as it makes me, Carsten does very well in goal.
Day 269 - September 26, 2013
I got a 16 pound bag of jewelry at a garage sale this summer for $5 or $10 I think. Today Addison and I sorted through the tangled necklaces, bracelets, mismatched earrings, pins etc. She loved it and when I suggested we go play something else, Addison said she wanted to keep looking at all the pretties. Here's a tiny sampling as we worked through the big bag.
Day 270 - September 27, 2013
Savannah has been into making Paper Origami games lately. I have no idea what they are called but it brought back memories of when I used to make them. I found Jared and Savannah playing after school today.
Day 271 - September 28, 2013
Can I just say that Carsten, Savannah and I have been waiting for hockey to start again? We have been seeing scores for the exhibition games but haven't seen our team play on TV yet...til tonight.
Back to the nitty gritty of life. Working on Grocery Day and Certificate orders.
Day 267 - September 24, 2013
Carsten spied a great deal for a yummy supper...$6 for 1/2 rack Ribs and Wedges. Sometimes its hard to do it all and so last night Carsten got his wish of ribs for supper. The kids all loved being able to choose their own supper and I didn't have to cook. Win - win :)
While I usually talk about a lot of everyday little things that we do in the family or the kids do...the next few days are going to be about my time at the conference I went to because it was such a big thing in my life.
I brought the kids to school and prayed that Mark's flight would come in without delay so he could pick the kids up from school. Kim, Rachel and I headed for the Revive '13 Conference in Schaumburg, Illinois. After arriving safely in Chicago, we enjoyed touring the city. There was so much to see and so little time but we did have time for a horse and carriage ride, trying some Garrett's popcorn, shopping the American Girl store, eating Giordano's deep dish pizza for supper taking a taxi to Navy Pier, walking back from the pier and coming across a Cupcake food truck. It was a lot to take in but it was a wonderful experience. The combination of old and new buildings with wonderful character was breathtaking. We headed to the Renaissance hotel to get some rest and gear up for the conference.
Here is a view of Chicago from our horse and carriage ride.
Day 263 - September 20, 2013
The day started with breakfast at Ikea with a quick browsing of the store. After a nice walk to Woodfield Mall, we shopped at the Lego store. We caught the shuttle back to the hotel and the conference began. God was speaking and being away from the regular hustle and bustle of life, I had a chance to really listen. It was the beginning of a wonderful weekend where God was working hard in my heart. We had a break for supper and we enjoyed supper at the Cheesecake Factory...Fabulous food and conversation.
Here is the view from our window.
Day 264 - September 21, 2013
We knew we wouldn't have a lot of time for breakfast in the morning since the first session started at 8:30 am so we ordered a pizza at supper last night for breakfast. There are so many things I want to share on what I learned and relearned at the conference, but it is so hard to wrap it all up in a few lines. God continued to work on/ in me at the conference and on the way home. I know God put me in the vehicle with the two ladies He did to continue His work in my life through our conversations. Thank you Kim and Rachel!
Our hotel
Day 265 - September 22, 2013
We got home from the conference around 2:30 am and getting up for church was hard but it was such a blessing. God continued working and tying everything together through the sermon, the conference, music, conversations with people He brought to me. God pursued me...He wants all of me, not just an episode of my life. I truly feel revived and at peace especially in some areas that I have been struggling with. Thank you Lord! I am already eager to attend next year and pray that God will continue to bless me as I seek to do His will.
I bought some flowers at Costco earlier this week...it was nice to have these flowers to brighten my day as I wasn't feeling great.
Day 259 - September 16, 2013
Soccer practice for the kids at school...After practicing hard their shoes and shin pads usually end up on the floor...be glad (very glad) that you can't smell them ;)
Day 260 - September 17, 2013
Rowan, Addison and I joined Kim for a walk at Pinafore Park. This little lone leaf floated down to the ground in front of me on our walk...it makes me giddy because fall is in the air (or on the ground). I love the beautiful colours, the crisp cool air and the crunch of leaves under foot. Thank you Lord for the changing seasons!
Day 261 - September 18, 2013
Alex found a little friend on the compost container today...a teeny tiny snail. Its shell was transparent and the snail slowly made its way across the lid. If you look at the second picture you can see a bit of the loop the snail made while working its way across the lid.
I still needed a picture so I snapped one of Savannah checking out the school yearbook. She loves looking through it and checking out each picture.
Day 254 - September 11, 2013
Didn't think I would ever post a picture of the inside of my crazy messy purse...Ugh, I so need to organize it. I think this will be the needed incentive. Please tell me others have this problem too.
Day 255 - September 12, 2013
The deal of the week at RCSS this week is a multipack of gloves...can I just say that the temperature with the humidex this week was "feels like 40 degrees"? When I asked the cashier if they had sold a lot of them, she said they actually had.
Day 256 - September 13, 2013
When we were in Holland, Kim and I disposed of a sweatshirt of Mark's that really needed to go. We replaced it with an Amsterdam sweatshirt but it is not the same. Today we found a similar sweatshirt and Mark had a package waiting for him when he got home. Here's his new Brooklyn sweatshirt and the elbows have no holes in them :)
Day 257 - September 14, 2013
My shoulder and back have been hurting a lot lately. I have been using Voltaren but am totally willing to try something new if someone can highly recommend something to help with the pain.
Mark and I played in the school's fundraising baseball tournament...it's been a while since either of us have played. We found one glove but mine was never found and I had to end up borrowing one...the kids have it somewhere. Here's Mark's glove.
Day 251 - September 8, 2013
Just taking a look at a page from our school yearbook that arrived...I was absolutely giddy with nervous excitement to see how the yearbook turned out. I was a bit nervous ordering 50 copies without ever seeing a physical copy.
Day 252 - September 9, 2013
I had my mind set on what picture I was going to use today...one of the kids reading during our homework/reading time after school. I took pictures of them all and then I snapped some pictures of how Alex got the girls home after selling chocolate bars...it was meant to be the picture of the day.
I LOVE price matching!! Sometimes I am told why bother or I don't have time and that's totally ok...I take the time and today I was absolutely giddy when I got almost $20 off my lean ground beef in about 30 seconds of my time. I decided I would write a post on Price Matching. On the left is the price I should have paid for the groceries at RCSS and the right is what I paid after price matching. I saved $49.75 without driving to several different stores! :)
Honey Nut Cheerios $4.47 1 x Honey Nut Cheerios $2.99
6 x Fruite Peach Juice $11.94 6 x Fruite Peach Juice $5.94
4 x 18 Eggs $18.76 4 x 18 Eggs $11.88
9 x Lipton Soup Mix $17.01 9 x Lipton Soup Mix $8.73
4 x Orville Popcorn $19.08 4 x Orville Popcorn $11.88
At supper the boys were thinking they were both stronger than one another...so this is the first of many I am sure but following supper, Alex and Carsten settled it the old fashioned way...arm wrestling. Anyone want to guess who one?
Day 248 - September 5, 2013
This picture says it all...it's Chocolate Bar selling time! While Carsten is not too quick to go out and sell chocolate bars, he is a good customer ;) If anyone would like some chocolate bars feel free to let us know...We have Chocolate Almond Bars, Caramel Chocolate Bars, Crisp Chocolate Bars, Chocolate Covered Almonds and Caramel Swirls.
Today was the first day of school! The kids were pretty excited with Carsten showing a little less excitement but I think he was just trying to be cool.
God answered our prayers of enrollment going up and he gave exactly the number of students that was prayed for...gave me goosebumps when that was announced this morning in the opening assembly. I pray that this school year will be a wonderful year where we not only learn our academics but also learn to live out our faith more in all we do.
No picture today so I took a picture of one of the many books I hope to read...THM seems to be the new thing. I was shocked when the book arrived and it was really thick. With the kids going back to school soon, I hope I'll have a chance to read it.
Day 243 - August 31, 2013
Savannah and her friends watching a movie with some popcorn.
Day 244 - September 1, 2013
Yesterday when Kim and I hit some garage sales...we came across a garage sale that made my hockey card collecting kids ecstatic!!! We got a shoe box and three small boxes full of hockey cards for $10! That's better than dollar store deals! Here's Savannah sorting them all into teams.
Day 245 - September 2, 2013
Labour Day...Gym bags packed and shoes ready...1st Day of School tomorrow.
