Week 44 ~ October 28-November 3, 2016

We started this week with a trip to Port Huron to pick up some packages, grocery shop, check out the music and sports stores, and browse Hobby Lobby of course. Carsten and Savannah joined Kim and I because they had a PD Day. No trip is complete without lunch at the Golden Corral, especially if we have the kids with us...who wouldn't want to play with the chocolate fountain and get cotton candy?

I came across this sign while we were there and posted it...I thought this was a cool sign because I definitely have sticky floors, a messy kitchen and laundry piles... quite a few people expressed that they liked/needed that sign. One of my friends on Facebook thought it was funny that so many of us "Dutch" moms think they needed this sign.

If I am truthful, I often try to make my house look way better than it is during normal every day life...When I know someone is coming over, it is not uncommon to hear..."Let's clean this place up! Put the shoes away! Load the dishwasher and get it started! Flip a load of laundry over! Bring up the vacuum! Bring your clothes to your room! Bring this bin of papers upstairs!" The idea is to hide as much of the mess as possible and make it look like I am a better housewife than I really am ðŸ˜³ Wow, that was a little hard to admit.

Kim and I watched the movie I'm Not Ashamed...based on a true story of Columbine High School student Rachel Joy Scott who grew up knowing the love of God but wasn't always ready to receive it.

"At times her faith is strong, but at other times, she finds that it's at odds with her daily life. After a difficult breakup with her non-believing boyfriend, Rachel finds inspiration from a formerly homeless teen, and her renewed commitment to Christ plays out powerfully at her high school and around the world.

Rachel struggles to reconcile her desire to walk with God and the pressures to fit in, to find love, to have deep friendships. The film realistically shows that she isn't perfect and doesn't always make wise decisions. Ordinarily, that wouldn't be positive. But what is positive here is how the film depicts Rachel not as a "saint," per se, but as a strong, at times struggling young woman who's discovering what she believes.

Though she stumbles at times, Rachel becomes a person who wants to care for others no matter how they treat her. The movie shows the impact just one life can have when someone makes a commitment to be kind and compassionate."

Sundays are not always super relaxing but they fill us up for the rest of the week...we go to church to worship God, Kim and I have Sunday School with the youngest class, a second service to learn more about our gracious God, and depending on the week there is a Valleyview church service, Calton Choir and YPS singing at Valleyview. Thankful for the time we have to spend with friends and family as we encourage each other in our walk with God. From the littles joyfully singing in our class to Mark's Mom contentedly listening to the hymns being sung...there's no better way to spend Sundays.

I didn't know how good of a garage sale find I got this summer...a $5 George Foreman Rotisserie...add a husband that loves to cook...WIN, WIN for the family!

Rowan really wanted to make some puzzles this week that were a little easier than the one I was working on...I found some good puzzles for him to try at the BFM thrift store and he was thrilled to get working on them.

We don't really go out trick or treating but we dressed up and visited 2 places this year...a teacher from the Savannah's school who recently moved into our neighbourhood (3 teachers answered the door ðŸ˜Š) and a trip to Valleyview to visit the residents...they love visitors and really loved having the kids trick or treating.

We also loved the pumpkin decorating contest that Valleyview had displayed. Here were our favourite three.

Savannah also had her school pictures this week...Grade 6
