The boys played in the church 3-on-3 ball hockey fundraising tournament...not sure if anyone knows this (insert wink), but I love sports and thoroughly enjoy watching the kids play. Kim, Savannah, Stella and I came to watch the boys play. The kids really enjoyed Stella and we ended up going to the park inbetween games.
We try to take Oma out to church every other week but after this week, we're unsure whether we will continue. While she still loves attending church, it has become a little harder, especially when she wants to help settle children who are not sitting super still around her. It's also hard when rhetorical questions are asked and she sometimes tries to respond. We also recognize how hard it can be for a minister when she may speak out and it was a hard week for her and the minister. We trust God and will continue to take her to her every other week VV church services...thanks so much to Arie and Jake who use their gifts during those church services.
The boys track and field meet was this week and we were all freeeeeezing! It looked like a gorgeous day but pictures don't necessarily show the whole picture...getting soaked in the rain and not able to block the icy wind...going shopping at the nearby Walmart for dry, warm clothes. Thankfully the sun came out in the afternoon and while it was still cold, there was a little warmth. BRRRRR...hopefully next time I don't forget to check the weather forecast and we will be better prepared.
You know it's cold when Carsten is willing to cuddle up with people to get warm.
Not sure I have ever had to be a field event where they had to search for the shot put
Alex - Shot put - 2nd with 11.74m
(Tied for 1st but had to take another throw to break the tie)
Carsten - Shot put - 3rd with 10.60m
Carsten - Triple Jump - 4th with 9.90m
Alex was on the relay team and when one runner had to pull out of that event, Carsten stepped in and ran it for him. Fun to see the boys running relay together again.
I think Grandparents Day is one of the kids' favourite days as they eagerly wait to welcome their grandparents and grandfriends into their class. Smiles and hugs, tugging of hands, eager to show what they have been working on. After the classroom visits, there is a program that the kids put on for all the visitors complete with songs, band performance, tableau, and more.
Something that weighed heavily on many of our minds this week was the wildfire that swept through Fort McMurray, destroying many homes and having to have people evacuate.
