WEEK 32 ~ AUGUST 5-11, 2016

Olympic fever took over the house as we tuned in to watch the many different kinds of sporting events...soccer was probably the most watched event by everyone in our house but Carsten, Savannah and I found it very interesting to learn about new-to-us sports.

The first gold medal came to 16 year old Penny Oleksiak in Swimming and she went on to win a total of 4 medals during this Olympics.

We looked forward to spending a little more time at home next week so we could watch a bit more of the Olympics, cheering Canadian athletes on in their respective events. While I am not a big wrestling fan, I came across this article and loved the message, "If you're competing just to win you're going to be disappointed either way. Defeat is devastating and victory is fleeting."(http://www.theplayerstribune.com/brandon-slay-usa-wrestling-olympics-rio/ ) Such a good reminder for all of us.

Kim, Olivia, Andrew and I enjoyed learning more about weaving with Joan at Here's 2 Ewe's Open House. It was so neat to learn how a tea towel, or cloth is made...we even got to make a coaster.

Kim and I spend a lot of time at the church the week of VBS and the kids have learned to help where needed, play nicely and also to have a great game of hide and seek while Kim and I focus on decorating and prepping for the week. This year was special as all 3 of the kids were helpers and we thank God for all the children he brought to the church so we could share the gospel...the good news of God saving sinners through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Each year Carsten's birthday falls within our VBS week and since it's so busy, we try to make it special by letting him open his gifts, choose supper and eat cake at church so we don't miss his birthday. This year Car turned 15 and Mark woke him with this version of Happy Birthday...

I love listening to Alex practice the cello and found it really cool when he played along with a CD that came with his cello book.
