WEEK 33 ~ AUGUST 12-18, 2016

The last day of VBS arrived and the kids were excited to share with their parents some of the songs they have learned. After a short program, we all enjoyed a pizza supper followed by crafts and games.

We enjoyed breakfast at Angel's to celebrate Carsten's birthday. The food was great and it was nice to be able to just relax after a busy week.

It was a hard week for me as I wasn't feeling so great...dizziness, crazy tight muscles, headaches, ear ache, elevated temperature. A couple of meetings, appointments, volleyball camp and finishing up the soccer season signalled to us that the end of summer is on its way and we forged ahead, the boys joined Hope and her church's young peoples for some archery tag and had a great time.

After dropping Alex off at work, Carsten and I often drove a Pokemon route chatting and playing the game...I really enjoyed the time we spent bonding this summer. Carsten was visiting a friend in Wyoming so I drove our usual route and stopped at the church I have been wanting to tour...it's a beautiful little church with a cemetery beside it.

We watched quite a bit more Olympic coverage and just enjoyed the many different talents given to the different athletes...we especially enjoyed the fun realtionship forming between Usain Bolt and Andre De Grasse.

With extra kids around in the summer, lots of activities and taxiing kids to wherever they may need to go, it's hard to balance family life with visiting Mark's Mom as much as I used to. I am so thankful for the loving and caring relationship that Kim (and the kids she brings along) has with Mom. Oma LOVES Logan and they love hanging out.

With school starting soon, I was reminded of a great lesson with toothpaste from http://www.scarymommy.com/toothpaste-lesson-amy-beth-gardner/

"You will remember this plate of toothpaste for the rest of your life. Your words have the power of life or death. As you go into middle school or life, you are about to see just how much weight your words carry. You are going to have the opportunity to use your words to hurt, demean, slander and wound others. You are also going to have the opportunity to use your words to heal, encourage, inspire and love others. You will occasionally make the wrong choice; I can think of three times this week I have used my own words carelessly and caused harm. Just like this toothpaste, once the words leave your mouth, you can't take them back. Use your words carefully. When others are misusing their words, guard your words. Make the choice every morning that life-giving words will come out of your mouth. Decide today that you are going to be a life-giver. Be known for your gentleness and compassion. Use your life to give life to a world that so desperately needs it. You will never, ever regret choosing kindness."
